This Appreciative Space hour will offer a taste of how a few well-chosen questions can open a doorway to meaning, blessing, and legacy.
After a brief theoretical framing on dignity and appreciative listening, Francesca Oliva will move us into a guided paired practice encouraging participants to choose 3–4 “life-giving” prompts, tell their story, and receive an “honouring reflection” of the words and images that shine through. The session will conclude by gathering participants’ ideas for using this approach in their own contexts.
Francesca Oliva is an Italian psychologist and counsellor who, among other activities, facilitates dignity-centred conversations in end-of-life contexts. Drawing on Dignity Therapy and an Appreciative Inquiry lens, she creates safe, respectful spaces where people can reconnect with what has mattered most in their lives – values, roles, moments of aliveness, legacies, gratitude, hopes, and words still to be said.
Held monthly at various times and days of the week, Appreciative Space encourages appreciative inquiry practitioners to share stories of their work with churches and other organisations as part of a self-sustaining community of practice.
The zoom link for each session is available through the members area of the Appreciating Church website. New members are welcome to register for an annual fee of £30.
Email enquiries@appreciating.church if you would like to join a session as a guest before committing to membership.
