What happens when Action Learning and Appreciative Inquiry combine?
An opportunity for peer support in addressing church projects using appreciative inquiry to address mission, discipleship, change and upheaval.
Action Learning is a process of insightful questioning and reflective listening. It tackles problems through first asking questions to clarify the exact nature of the problem, then reflecting and identifying possible solutions, before taking action.
Like Action Learning, Appreciative Inquiry is an evidence-based intervention approach to support learning and change for individuals, groups, and larger systems. Focussing on the possibilities within situations, Appreciative Inquiry addresses challenges through first identifying strengths and aspirations.
The similarities and differences between the two approaches are in the hands of the practitioners, so in this session we will practice appreciative Action Learning together.
There will be time for up to three people to describe a church situation that they are currently involved with, and then for the rest of the group to make comments and ask questions that are framed appreciatively. The idea is to see a situation from a different perspective and so generate alternative ways forward.
The session will be facilitated by Revd Fiona Thomas, developmentalist for Appreciating Church.
Email enquiries@appreciating.church for joining details. There is no charge for this event.
