The surprising power of conversation

The surprising power of conversation

Margaret J Wheatley argues that there is no more powerful way to initiate change than to convene a conversation.

The online Appreciative Space on 14th May at 11.00-12.00 BST will explore the conversation starters from her 2002 book Turning to one another.

With decades of experience in organisational development, Margaret Wheatley has been unwavering in asserting the power of believing in, and harnessing, the inherent goodness of human beings in reversing the world’s worsening direction.

She advocates for conversations especially with those we call stranger or enemy:

I know with all my heart that the only way the world will change is if many more of us step forward, let go of our judgements, become curious about each other, and take the risk to begin a conversation.

Fiona Thomas will offer Margaret Wheatley’s conversation starters to the Appreciative Space, with the intention of exploring where such conversations could make a difference in the places where Appreciative Inquiry practitioners find themselves.

Currently held on the second Wednesday of each month at 11.00-12.00 BST, Appreciative Space encourages appreciative inquiry practitioners to share stories of their work with churches and other organisations as part of a self-sustaining community of practice.

The zoom link for each session is available through the members area of the Appreciating Church website. New members are welcome to register for an annual fee of £30 https://appreciating.church/register/

Email enquiries@appreciating.church if you would like to try a session before committing to membership.
